Timothy the Tortoise (1839-2004). England’s oldest pet! Timothy was discovered on a Portuguese pirate ship in 1854 and was mascot to a number of British Naval ships until 1892. After this the Earl of Devon took Timothy in and was kept in the family throughout generations until 2004 when Timothy died. Despite the name Timothy, he was actually a she as people didnt know how to sex tortoises in the 19th century.
